We have been out collecting signatures for the petition to save the South London Line. This is a line that runs from London Victoria to London Bridge. TfL and the DfT are planning to scrap this line in 2012, and replace it with the Overground Line (linking Clapham to New Cross, via Queens Road, Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill). South London needs more trains, not less.

Whilst the Overground will be a valuable addition to South London’s transport options, the fact it is being paid for by the scrapping of the South London Line, is a disasterous decision. It is essential that these planned cuts are reversed, as being able to get into central London’s employment centres, and more importantly making it easy for people to come to us, is crucial for places like Camberwell and Peckham in reaching their potential. It’s great to know that all the parties are behind this campaign and that it’s not being used to score political points by anyone.
